Step inside a real, working fish factory in Nordvågen — where the catches from the ocean come ashore — for a guided tour through the entire production, from dock to finished product. The tour ends with a tasting of king crab, stockfish and Norwegian caviar, and a visit to our gift shop.
Bruket – Fish Factory is the world's first visitor centre for wild fish, and it's not a museum. You are entering an operational fish factory where real production takes place around you.
Your guide — one of our own factory workers — will walk you through the building and share how fish and king crab come ashore, are processed, and prepared for both local tables and international export. Along the way you'll learn about stockfish, one of Norway's oldest export trades, see live king crab, and discover how strict quotas and modern technology work together with skill and tradition to safeguard resources.
The experience engages all five senses. Expect sounds, smells and hands-on moments — this is not a passive visit.
The tour wraps up with a tasting of three of our products: boiled king crab, dried stockfish and sugar-salted smoked Norwegian caviar. After the tasting you are welcome to browse souvenirs in the gift shop, including locally crafted jewellery and keepsakes featuring otoliths — the lucky stones found inside cod heads.
Languages: All guiding and displays are in English. Translation booklets are available in German, Italian, French and Spanish.
Accessibility: The visitor centre is step-free throughout except the mezzanine. Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available. More details at fishfactory.no/accessibility
